De-thatching and re-seeding:
We offer a de-thatching and lawn re-seeding service and you might be ask 'what is a thatch' and 'why is that a problem'?
Thatch is a layer of living and dead tissue existing between the green leaves of the grass and the soil. It's mainly composed of left over grass clippings from cutting your lawn.
The amount of thatch increased when the municipalities stopped picking-up bags of grass clippings in their curb side garbage collections. Home owners stopped using grass collection bags on there lawnmowers and started to mulch the grass clippings back into the lawn. Although this is a good practice, it produces a lot of thatch that cannot decompose fast enough and the result is a layer of thatch that gets deeper and deeper. A thatch layer deeper than half and inch thick is considered excessive.
A little thatch is beneficial but excessive thatch can make your lawn susceptible to damage from disease and draught. Rain water is absorbed by the thatch and sometimes prevents the water from reaching the root zone. We provide a de-thatching service for our clients using special equipment designed to remove thatch.
After the thatch has been removed we recommend spreading a layer of triple mix soil and then re-seeding the lawn with a premium grass seed. We can provide you with a free detailed estimate for these services.
